Yesterday we read the story "Seed, Sprout, Pumpkin, Pie."  We worked on the following vocabulary words:


We found a pumpkin that had a vine coming out of the top.


We also learned about the word decorate.  We used a picture of a living room and added Halloween stickers to it as decorations. These are great sticker pads I would recommend getting for you child. You can get them here


We also did the following story.  Show your child the story and ask the to tell it to you!
1. Molly wanted to have a surprise Halloween party for Matt.  She had to decorate her house before the party.

2.  Molly put up all the decorations around the house.  She saw Matt coming down the stairs, so she turned off the lights.  

3. It was so dark in the house, and Matt couldn't see!

4. Molly turned on the lights and said "Surprise!"  Matt was so happy to see all of the Halloween decorations!

Nervous: We talked about different times the students have been nervous.  Some students shared it's when the lights go out, when they go to school, and on the bus.  Ask your child about when they feel nervous!

Nervioso: Nosotros hablemos sobre cuando los ninos estaban nerviosos.  Algunos estudiantes dijeron que ellos estan nerviosos cuando no hay luz, cuando van a la escuela, y en el bus.  Pregunta su hijo cuando ellos estan nerviosos.

 


Pace:  We talked about times that we walk at a fast pace and times that we walk at a slow pace.  Ask your child about when they walk at a fast or slow pace! 

Paso: Nosotoros hablemos sobre cuando caminamos en un paso rapidamento y despacio.  Pregunta a su nino cuando ellos caminan rapido o despacio.

Pumpkins!

For the next two weeks we are working on pumpkins in Ms. Abby and Ms. Mary's classes! Here are the books, vocabulary words, definitions, and activities.  Please talk about the vocabulary words, read the books, and do the following activities.  Thank you!

Scoop/Sacar

We scooped shiny and delicious things out of oatmeal.  We then put these objects on our vocabulary pictures.  

Nosotros sacamos cosas brillantes y deliciosas.  Nostoros pusimos los objetos en las fotos de vocabulario.





Sprout/Brote

We painted pictures of a seed, a sprout that is a baby plant, and then a big plant!

Weigh/Pesar


The students all weighed their bodies on the scale. 

Todos de los estudiantes pasaron los cuerpos en la escala.



The children looked for other things in the classroom to weigh.  Here they were weighing the book, and then they pushed down on the scale to see the numbers move.

Los ninos buscaron para otras cosas pare pesar.  Aqui ellos pesaron el libro, y luego empujaron la escala para ver los numeros mueven.



Float/Flotar

The students put things in water to see if they floated. If they floated they put it on the "yes" paper, and if not they put it on the "no" paper.

Los estudiantes pusieron cosas en el agua para ver si pueden flotar.  Si las cosas podian flotar, los ninos pusieron las cosas en el papel que dice "si." Si no podian flotar pusieron la cosa en el pape que dice "no."

Apples, Apples, Apples!

For the next two weeks in Ms. Abby and Ms. Mary's classes we will be learning all about Apples.  We will be reading the following books and learning two vocabulary words with each book.  The vocabulary words were also sent home, so please work on them with your child at home!

Para las dos proximas semanas en las clases de Ms. Abby y Ms. Mary vamos a aprender todo sobre manzanas!  Vamos a leer estos libros y aprender dos palabras de vocabulario para cada libro.  Uds. recibieron las palabras, por favor trabajo con sus ninos en la casa!

Show your child the picture and talk about the definition of "shiny."  Make a sign that says "yes" and "no."  Look around your house with your child and find things that are shiny, and things that are not shiny!

Muestra la foto y la definition de "brillante." Haga un papel que dice "si" y "no." Busque en su casa con su nino para cosas que son brillantes y cosas que no son brillantes!



Show your child the picture of and talk about "carving."  Talk about other things that you can carve, what you can use, and what you can carve!  At school we carved faces into playdough with sticks.

Muestra y habla de la definition de "tallar."  Habla sobre las cosas que pueden tallar, que puede usar para tallar, y que puede tallar!  En la escuela los estudiantes tallaron plastacina con palos.

Show your child the picture and talk about the definition of "delicious."  Make a sign that says "yes" and "no."  Look around for real or pretend foods, and decide if they are delicious or not!

Muestra la foto y la definition de "delicioso." Haga un papel que dice "si" y "no." Busque en su casa con su nino para comida real o falsa, y habla si la comida es delicioso o no es delicoso!


Show your child the picture and talk about the definition of "blossoms."  Trace your child's hand and make leaves to make a tree!  Then use a bingo marker, paint, or markers to make blossoms!

Muestra la foto y la definition de "florecimiento." Traza la mano de su hijo y hagan hojas para hacer un arbol!  Luego use un marcador del bingo, pintura, o marcadores para hacer florecimientos!
