August Homework Packet

Miss Abby and Miss Mary's Rooms:

Your students will be receiving homework packets like this in their backpack!  Please work on the vocabulary words with your child, and read the books with them!

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books

Here is our book for the week!  It's a super funny book about an old lady who swallows all sorts of school items.  First, I will read the story and then we will act it out with real props.

 The following is an activity that you can do at your home with your children.  You can have the old lady "eat" all of the items in the correct order.  (books, pen, pencil case, ruler, folder, chalk, bag) and then out of her mouth came the backpack.

Bus Activity

This week in our articulation class we will read 

If your student is in Mary or Alissa's class, you can do this activity with your child at home! First color all of the school items and then out them on the bus. 

You can work on general articulation and have your child say the words after you. You can also use this as a categorization activity and talk about what items you can find in a school.

Vocabulary Words for August: About Me, My Family, and My School

These vocabulary words are the specific ones that we will be focusing on this month with your child.

Back to School Words

One of my teachers asked her to make common noun and action word cards. She I'll be using these words for the first month to stress the nouns, adjectives for weather, classroom helper jobs, and center names.  You can print out two copies and play memory with these words.

Back to School Social Story

This story is all about going to back to school, or starting a new school!  If you read this story to your child it will help prepare him/her for going back to school.  I will be reading it with all of the children the first week of school (next week!)

Preschool Action Words

Show your child these action words so they know what to expect at school. You can talk about what the boy is doing in each picture and how they might do the same things in their classroom!

Back To School Bingo

School is just around the corner!  Print out these bingo sheets to play with your children to get them ready mentally for school!  This will also help them learn or become re-familiar with the vocabulary words again.
