Big Pumpkin/Calabaza Grande

Vine/Vid:

We found a pumpkin with a vine still attached to it!

Ask your child which of these pictures show boast.

Yesterday we read the story "Seed, Sprout, Pumpkin, Pie."  We worked on the following vocabulary words:

We found a pumpkin that had a vine coming out of the top.

We also learned about the word decorate.  We used a picture of a living room and added Halloween stickers to it as decorations. These are great sticker pads I would recommend getting for you child. You can get them here

We also did the following story.  Show your child the story and ask the to tell it to you!

1. Molly wanted to have a surprise Halloween party for Matt.  She had to decorate her house before the party.

2.  Molly put up all the decorations around the house.  She saw Matt coming down the stairs, so she turned off the lights.  

3. It was so dark in the house, and Matt couldn't see!

4. Molly turned on the lights and said "Surprise!"  Matt was so happy to see all of the Halloween decorations!

Pumpkins!

For the next two weeks we are working on pumpkins in Ms. Abby and Ms. Mary's classes! Here are the books, vocabulary words, definitions, and activities.  Please talk about the vocabulary words, read the books, and do the following activities.  Thank you!

Scoop/Sacar

We scooped shiny and delicious things out of oatmeal.  We then put these objects on our vocabulary pictures.

Sprout/Brote

We painted pictures of a seed, a sprout that is a baby plant, and then a big plant!

Weigh/Pesar

The students all weighed their bodies on the scale.

The children looked for other things in the classroom to weigh.  Here they were weighing the book, and then they pushed down on the scale to see the numbers move.

Los ninos buscaron para otras cosas pare pesar.  Aqui ellos pesaron el libro, y luego empujaron la escala para ver los numeros mueven.

Float/Flotar

The students put things in water to see if they floated. If they floated they put it on the "yes" paper, and if not they put it on the "no" paper.

Pumpkin Patch Articulation

This week we did a fun articulation  activity!  Since we have been learning about pumpkins and vines, I made a little pumpkin patch.  The students had to come pick a pumpkin from the vine.  Then they had to tell us what letter was on the pumpkin, and the picture that was on the back.  We did "T" and "D" words since those are the sounds their class is working on.  They then had to put the pumpkin in the basket that had a "D" pumpkin, or the basket that had the "T" pumpkin.

Pumpkin Patch Small World Play

To go with the book "Apples and Pumpkins," I made a pumpkin patch small world play for my kids. It has a lot of the vocabulary words from the story.  In this first one, there is a family that is going to the pumpkin patch.  Here, we talked about a lot of actions and worked on following directions.  We also sorted all of the objects.  We put all of the leaves in a basket, then acorns in another one, and pumpkins in the third one. I also made another one that was in a bigger box.  With this small world play, I worked primarily on learning the vocabulary. I had the students find a specific object, and then find where it went on a paper that had the outline of all the objects:

Apples and Pumpkins

Here is our book for the week!  I would suggest getting it from the library and reading it with your child.  We are doing "dialogic reading" with this book. Here is a great article that describes what dialogic reading is.  We are also using the following vocabulary words to go with the pictures.  Before we read the story, we will show them the pictures of the words and give them the definition.  Then we will all say the word together.  Here are the words with their pictures and the definition (I just used google images for these pictures).

Here are the same words, but larger.  You can print these out and do drill practice with your child.  Whenever there is downtime, you can hold up the pictures and ask "what's this?" Don't spend more than a couple of minutes a day!
